



The North-east Savo region is characterized by many small villages in between lakes, fields and forests. Each village has his own traditions and culture and meeting with the locals to discover those cultural gems will be very rewarding.
But there are also some very special places that go beyond the regional culture. Telkkämäki is the only remaining slash and burn farm in Finland. It functions now as a museum farm and it is also used to study the unique flora that comes with the slash and burn technique.
The Rotkolaakso gorge is Tuusniemi is an unique geological feature in Finland. And the ironwork museum in Juankoski is a main location on the ironworks route.
And the region is perfectly located for trips to interesting points in the neighboring areas like the Koli nature reserve, the mining town of Outokumpu or the Valamo monastery and the Lintula convent.
